b'C ountry Club of Lincoln Golf Course Superintendent Ryan Krings was raised in a family of professional craftsmen. His father was a metal fabricator and Ryan recalls the family always having some type of project going in the garage. I remember the fun and satisfaction that came from creating something, starting with basically nothing and seeing the beautiful end result, he says.A DIY guy at heart, Ryan didnt fall far from the family tree. He has completed the basement finish himself on two homes over the years and applied his carpentry skills and keen attention to detail to construct personal entertainment center cabinetry. He also loves to jump in on volunteer construction projects whenever he has the time. When it was time to upgrade the CCL golf course accessories, we could have spent a fortune, Ryan said. Instead, we did the research to better understand weather-hardy wood like teak and other materials, and built the accessory bag stands, range stands, range ball boxes and more right here on campus. I couldnt put a price on all the work, but I know we saved a lot.Ryan and his staff were fortunate to get a new 20 x 20 workshop when the Club built the new maintenance/cart barn a few years back. We have accumulated an enviable collection of tools and equipment over time, including table saws, planers and routers. Theres not much we dont have, Krings playfully boasts. His shop even has a paint booth.Krings and teams handiwork extends beyond woodworking. Members of Ryans staff also have a knack for metalworking and are taking on these types of projects whenever possible. The cool CCL logo tee markers on the golf course are a great example of this skilled craftsmanship. Ryan tells us the guys are even able to perform the powder coat finishing processes. We approach this work for the Club as if we were taking care of our own homes and, whenever possible, build everything we can in-house. We take great pride in keeping everything looking first class. Really bringing it home, Ryan and the team have even successfully repaired fine furniture pieces used inside the clubhouse.Ryan Kringsryan@ccl.cc |GROUNDS'
